Lakeland Lounge

Does anyone remember going to a place called the Lakeland Lounge in Accrington? Where was it and what bands did you see there?

Re: Lakeland Lounge

Grit Band on Manchesterbeat - the group and music scene of Manchester in the 60's

September 1970

Mick Bolton: Ancient History; Mott The Hoople, Dexys Midnight Runners etc.

Listed as a venue for gigs played by these bands, if anyone went to see them.

The Lakeland Lounge...to some a slightly tatty upstairs room in a working men's club...to others a hotbed of prog rock!

I went there regularly in '69/'70 and I can't remember the name of a single band I saw...wonder why?

Yeah, I vaguely (very vaguely! ) remember seeing Gravy Train. Hope you've kept all your Gravy Train albums in good nick, AngleIron. They're currently worth about a ton each!

Re: Lakeland Lounge

I'm sure the old Accy Web beatniks (Cashy and Wynonie) have seen this before, but there's lots of interesting information about venues, and bands from this neck of the woods, on this link to Bryan Yorke's biography.

Accrington groups The Warriors, Soundcasters, and The Dappers, with Tommy Franks on lead vocals, get a mention, as well as Great Harwood group, Lennie and the Teenbeats.

Mercer Hall Great Harwood, and the Majestic Ballroon Accrington, are just two of the local venues for live bands mentioned.
