Re: Local Elections

I thought we were having a polite conversation here. Why do people feel constrained to get nasty?

Is it supposed to liven up the thread? Not for me, it doesn't. And I thought Accy people were friendly. Well, I still think most of them are. Ho, hum.

I am very grateful for the information, Gayle. Interesting.

This thread started with me asking for local information, so in a way it is relevant.

Thanks for that, Gayle.

Re: Local Elections

Sorry, but I've got to say Tricia, I think you're reading nastiness in where there isn't any.

All that I've read on this thread is a bit of gentle teasing.

Re: Local Elections

I have a question about local Hyndburn politics , maybe Gayle or young Cyfr can answer ,(they seem to be the most politically active users of the group)
Why do I read so much in various posts about Cllr. P Britcliffe and his power, yet nothing about the Mayor , has the Mayor of Hyndburn no power or authority ? If he is the Mayor, then surely he is the leader/chairperson of the council meetings and as such he decides what issues/items get tabled and disscussed.
If he has no 'power' whats the point in having him/her , just to be wheeled out to turn the Christmas lights on ?
thanks

Re: Local Elections

Graham Jones can probably tell you more but from what I understand the Mayor chairs the council meetings. He also has the deciding vote if there is a tie on any issues.

I think (not 100% sure) that the leading party i.e. in Hyndburn, Conservatives, set the agendas for each council meeting.

Yes, they come under the same MP because he represents the borough of Hyndburn - it's Greg Pope and he's Labour.
Oi dont forget he covers Haslingden as well and thats in Rossendale! His constituency should be Haslingden & Hyndburn not just Hyndburn now!

Please no. I would rather live in "Blackburn with Darwen (incorporating Hyndburn)" than "Haslingden & Hyndburn"

Re: Local Elections

You cant Neil - Darwen is with Rossendale and also it would make Blackburn too big a constituency

Re: Local Elections

I was only joking.
Isn't it stupid how they have split it all up?
Darwen and Blackburn should be together. So should Haslingden and Rossendale.
