This is also posted in the "greetings" forum so I apoplogize to double readers!
My daughter (Annie Victoria) and I (Brian) are planning a visit to Accrington next week during a trip to England. I really want to find the pub that my grandfather (George Henry Hall) used to go to most nights. He lived at 12 Oswald Street in Accrington and most likely walked to the closest pub. Can any of you local folks guide us to the name of this pub? I have waited these 45 years to get back to where my Grandparents were born. I would especially like to have a pint at this particular pub with "the locals!".
Background stuff only the most curious or board may wish to read!
I must let you know that my Grandma Hall (Woodhead) was from Yorkshire. I hope you guys don't hold that whole War of the Roses thing against me and my daughter Anni!
FYI, my Great Grandpa Woodhead was gonna fly to the States to stop his daughter from marrying a guy from Lancashire. As my grandfather would say "bugga him!"
My grandfather died in Accrington about 25 years ago. He had lived with my Great Aunt Maude Woodhead. In 1975, he left America to "go home to die." He was born (youngest of 16) in Ashton Under Lyne in 1898, joined the army at age 16, fought and was gassed in WWI, and came over here in 1923. I look forward to honoring him by visiting the place he was buried but more importantly the place that he lived.
Thanks so much for any information anybody can provide!:engsmil:
