Re: Lost Pub

Yes you are correct with the remark about the thimbles.A few years ago i worked the amount out from the Commercial at Church to the Black Dog at the top of Ossy.In 1901 there were 33 pubs on the main road between and starting with a thimble full at the Commercial and doubling up at each pub (approx 143 thimbles to a pint) not so many would get past the Printers (14 pints drunk),then at the Golden Cross where you would be throwing a mere 57,000 pints down the neck. And when you finally reach the Black Dog 30 Million pints would be waiting.

It used to catch people out at one time Peter, the doubling up of the thimble was part of Ossy Folk lore

Re: Lost Pub

Noticed the Royal at Clayton has re-opened and looks like the Forts is about to, as a gentleman was painting the outside yesterday. Have noticed lots of cars at night parked there, like a meeting was going on or summat.

All is not lost then.
