Maths Tutor

Can anyone recommend a good maths tutor for GCSE level

My son is due to take his GCSE's in May and although he excels at maths there are certain parts he is struggling with... so I really want to get some help for him as soon as possible as the whole exams and coursework is stressful enough without worrying that you "just don't get" certain aspects of it..

I don't want him distracted from everything with worrying about a small bit he is struggling with!!

cheers accylass, found that in yellow pages, and have applied for some tutors online, but ya can't beat a personal recommendation.

There is a teacher that comes in where I work, when I am in next, I will ask him if he knows of someone he could recommend, will let you know if you haven't found anyone suitable by next week

Yeh, my grandaughter attended here HR for maths and English Lit.. like your son, didn't think she really needed it (she was just lazy

) finished up with an A in English and B in Maths which was acceptable.

Can't understand why he cannot approach his tutor though at school ?

he has approached his teacher and he has helped him, but my son feels that some of it is not sinking in!! and one to one with someone on a regular basis will help even more. Parts of maths he finds really easy and other parts just seem to be eluding him! He has been studying like mad but I can see this is getting to him and a high mark in Maths is important (he already got a B last year but wasn't happy

)for him getting into clitheroe grammar 6th form

Don't think as difficult as you may think HR getting into the 6th form at Clitheroe Grammar .. much harder to get into there at 11 .. they have the pick of the cream then, for people who cannot afford an Independent (everybody still wants Grammar ya' know !) as lots of applicants .. that's why their results are high. (for a state school, well almost state) However, 6th form different ball game as many of their pupils have left at GCSE level .. so don't think he will have any problem.

I don't think he will either, he already has 3 GCSE's that he took a year early, but I will give him his due, he wants to do well...I think the problem is the subjects he wants to do at A level demand a high mark in Maths

What does he want to study?

Runshaw has quite a good college if he doesnt get into clitheroe grammar, better than the local ones anyway even though its a bit of a way out.

I kinda wish I went to a grammar school but I have a friend who did go to one and she's now an unbearable snob, and that is a bit off putting! Its brilliant that your son wants to do well.

Hmm now he hasn't fully made his mind up, but its looking like physics, was going to do maths but daren't now...aww bless, english lang/lit, critical thinking, business studies I think, but as I say he keeps changing his mind.

Looked round runshaw and he was impressed but the distance is a bit of a problem and he really isn't a morning person

Is it just one particular aspect he has problems with? Maybe the teacher hasn't explained it in such a way that it makes sense to him. I know what it feels like when you just can't seem to grasp something and then somebody else puts it a different way and all of a sudden it clicks, like somebody turning on a light switch. Good luck to him. Hope he gets the help he needs and a tutor who can get it across.
