Meeting history.

When I can't sleep I play all kinds of silly mind games, most based on six degrees of separation, were the whole world knows each other within six people.

One I was thinking about last night was who is the oldest person I've met.

In 1975, when I was ten, I met my great grandmother who was eighty, meaning she was born in 1895.

If she had met an eighty year old when she was ten (1905), that person would have been born in Georgian England, because that person would have been born in 1825. It sort of makes history real for me.

What's the oldest person you have met?

Should I ask the Doctor for stronger tablets???

Re: Meeting history.

It carries on throughout time.

So meeting my great grandmother, I'd met someone who would probably have met a Georgian.....and if that person she met had also met an eighty year old when they were ten, that person would have been born in 1755!

So I've met someone, who'd have met someone, who'd have met someone who was been born before the French Revolution.

Weird.

Come on, some of you owd ****** must be able to better me.

Re: Meeting history.

Taking you seriously See what you mean here, only regret I am coming up with is that I did not pump my Grandma (only knew one grandparent) for more of her memories, could have taken me a long way back. Her memories, her Mum's memories and her grandparents memories .. that would have been the mid-1700's at least.

Could have gone back and back couldn't it ? Not goin' to sleep tonight now, better get the sheep out KSH.

See Kate, it's fun.

You are nearly a hundred, so talking to your granny she could have talked to someone who knew the Romans.

They make me a bit too frisky to sleep.

I hope I don't have any Yorkshire blood in my family line.

Re: Meeting history.

I think I must be mad wherever my bloodline comes from.

Another one I do is that if a centenarian attended the late Queen Mother's christening, and a centenarian had attended that person's christening, the Queen Mother would have met someone who had met someone who had been born in 1700.

Oh hell, I'm starting to nod off.

Re: Meeting history.

Another suggestion is to work backwards through the Prime Ministers and see how far back you can remember.

As for the oldest person that I've met, I guess it would be my two great grandmothers. One died when I was about 12 and she was probably around 75 and my other died when I was about 16 and she was 86, I think. Feel very fortunate that I met two very different but very formidable women and had a full compliment of grandparents until I was almost 30.

Btw - for coincidence, one of my Great Grandmothers was an office clerk at the factory that Chris's grandad worked and then my dad served his apprenticeship there.

Re: Meeting history.

My nans next door neighbour was over 100 when she popped off, she'd gotten a letter from the Queen and got a write up in the papers.

Because I am in a generous mood tonight Garinda, I will forgive you that remark .. even though true, nearer one hundred than birth date, so I'm off now to my bed chamber, hopefully to nod off quickly dreaming of my ancestors who would definitely be of Roman Nobleblood I feel.
