Moorlands Maternity Home

I was born in Moorlands maternity Home, Rawtenstall, Haslingden, Accrington in 1948. Can anyone tell me more about the institution? Was it just a maternity hospital, was it some form of 'home' - if so for whom? When did it close down? Any info would be gratefully received. Regards Dave.

Re: Moorlands Maternity Home

I was born in the Moorland's Maternity Home. Is this place still standing? Still working? Any help would be appreciated.

I think that the Moorlands maternity home was part of the current Rossendale General Hospital. The hospital still exists but no longer has a maternity ward. Rossendalians are now usually born in Bury, Burnley or Blackburn.

Thank you! I also attended a school there for about one year (1952) when I was 5 years old. Any idea what school that would be? I still have a picture of me with my class, but nothing to indicate which school

Did you ever find out about the Moorland's maternity home? My grandmother was born there as well (in 1926) I was told that the Moorland's was a workhouse back in those days. Let me know if you found anything else out Thanks Carrie

This page has something on the place:

My mother-in-law was born there too, back in 1926.
