I did the walk in 2007 in aid of the bursary fund at UCLAN, my alma mater. There is a walk most weekends for various charities, depending on tides. There were nearly 600 of us, with the official guide, Cedriic Robinson. The guide is essential as the channels can change course very quickly. It was a lovely sunny day in May when we went so we didn't need the wet weather stuff.
Wear old shoes, they will get sodden. A lot of people took them off on reaching the river channels which can be quite deep. Roll your trousers up - the water came over my knees but then I am only five foot nothing.
Don't know what the arrangements are for the return but we were supposed to get the train from Kent's Bank. As there were so many people waiting, we went to the pub round the corner to let the crush die down.
Think that's all I have to offer. It really doesn't seem like nine miles so - enjoy and hope the weather's fine!

I hope the weather will be fine. I do have some old trainers but they let the water in. Perhaps I will wear shorts if it is nice....
