Need a house to rent

I wonder if anyone could help me. I'm a single parent with a daughter of 3½ and we are currently on housing benefit living in a private rented house. As we are not in the best of areas we are looking to move to either a 2/3 bedroom house within the Accrington area, as I am looking to return to work next month and my daughter already has a place at Nursery.

Could you possibly help me find somewhere to live? I am a person who takes pride in their home and will treat it with the utmost respect. My tenancy on this house has now run the 6 month course, but I have not given notice yet as I need to find somewhere else to live first. I will have my £300 deposit returned to me when I vacate this property, which I will of course use to put down on my next house but that is all I have, any advice etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: Need a house to rent

Have you tried 'Rent this House' on abbey street near the argos they have places to rent privately or see the local Telegraph for places in the local area ??

Failing that theres always the council or housing associations

By the way we have a community group for lone parents in Hyndburn area in association with Gingerbread North West which you may find helpful certainly if new to the area, you will be most welcome, click on the Hyndburn Gingerbread in my sig for details on our website or pm me for details if interested

Re: Need a house to rent

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I've tried buy-the-house, I've just rung them and they have a few houses, the only downside is the deposit. They said there is a lovely one in Ossie which sounds perfect but the deposit is £390 with the first month's rent of £375 in advance, fine, but I only have £300 in total!!

I keep looking in the local paper but nothing seems to be coming up, everything seems to be done via letting agents/estate agents.

I found a lovely house through a letting agent but they wanted a guarantor. I said my ex-parents in law would do it, they own their own house but because they are retired they said this would be no good?! They said they had to be working! I'm getting really desperate now, I need to move as I just don't feel safe around here.

I'm on the waiting list for the Council and all the local HA's I can find but I'm not high enough priority apparently

Re: Need a house to rent

This is the problem with letting agents & private renting is the high deposits & requirements of guarantors, have you called the CAB hom might be able to help push things with HA's & council specially if its regarding the area you live in at the moment or they may know of other places to try??

Hope that helps if not im sure someone on here may have more suggestions for you.
