Newspaper wrapping
Just bought some tripe for my dinner , made me think. Why fish and chips can no longer be wrapped in newspaper , yet tripe can.Admmited the tripe was in plastic bag but then fish and chips were in greaseproof paper. Any one any ideas.

Re: Newspaper wrapping
If I recall correctly the change was made due to health & safety, or something to do with concerns about ink contaminating the food..

Re: Newspaper wrapping
Do you know what goes onto the paper when printing newspapers?
If you did you would not want anything you plan to eat wrapped in one.

I agree, exposure to germs builds up your immune system.

The chips and fish were always put onto paper before being wrapped in newspaper...the newspapaer was just used to insulate the food...to stop it going cold on the way home........so the food didn't come into contact with the ink.
As others have said, many of us, over the years have eaten foods that were wrapped in this way and have come to no harm.

It wasn't a night out in our day Margaret, if you didn't call in the chippy (no kebab shops or curry houses in those days) on the way home, for a ton of chips and a battered whale

My late father in law's favourite saying was
'You've only so much dirt to eat afore you die'
Mainly after he'd picked his butty up of the workshop floor!
