Oil paintings - local valuer/auctioneer?

I have 3 large and 5 smaller original oil paintings which I want to sell.
They are all originals, painted in the 1970s by E Shaw.
Ernie Shaw was a friend of my father and he once exhibited at Haworth gallery.

They were last valued in 1981 in connection with divorce.
Then, the large ones were £250 each and the small ones £75 each

I want to have them valued with a view to auction.
I dont want to use ebay because I am not willing to risk damage in transit and to sell on a 'buyer to collect' basis will realise peanuts.

Does anyone know of a local valuer who could arrange their auction?

what subjects are the pictures and doe you have any pics of them dont forget when you got them valued that price would be to replace you might not get that valuation in auction.

The 3 large ones are-
Downham village, Bolton by Bowland village, Wordsworth's cottage
The 5 smaller ones are-
Lancaster waterfront, 3 of Shambles York, one of birch trees

I may get round to taking and posting pics later today but I am busy redecorating.
I have decided that they are too large for this small flat.
The big ones average 27"x"23", small ones 10"x15", including their frames

Walton & Walton in Burnley are good general auctioneers but not sure how good they would be with art. Worth a phone call I guess.

not poss/not known - was sent by my ex's solicitor

Try find a specialist art auction rather than a general one, you'll find more interest and hopefully get a higher price.

You know, there is an art shop in lancaster that perhaps purchases art, perhaps you could try selling them that way? Via specialist shops?

I thought I had the number for that shop but I dont, but I know its on the same road as Marks and Spencers so maybe you could find it an other shops via yellow pages.

Ernie Shaw did his painting whilst living in retirement in Morecambe, so art shops up there are more likely to know their value (if any)
When I have finished repainting the lounge I will put them up again (briefly) to get better pictures which I can send to dealers in Lancaster/Morecambe.
They might not be worth their trip down here so that Burnley auctioneer whose name Lancsdave gave me, might come in handy.

If anyone round here shows some interest and wants a further look I could always help you out with getting them to them or whatever. The one i'm thinking of in lancaster is only small but maybe they will have some contacts. I think i'm going into town tomorrow so I could maybe pop in and ask if they have heard of him or know anyone who is interested in local art?

Thanks Blazey - I would like to know whether he is well known up there - he was a prolific painter, so sheer quantity might make him known (and possibly bring the price down

)

Margaret , there is a little art and framing shop in Whalley they deal mostly in Prints , but have some originals by local artists (lots of Ribble valley stuff), the folks who work in there are very nice seem fairly knowledgable about 'northern' artists .They might even do sales on consignment, but not sure. The place is directly opposite the small car park next to the Pub on the left corner when you come down the hill to the main street , if they can't help you at least you will have had a nice afternoon out

Thanks for that Jack - a seriously good idea - the upper crust folk in the Ribble Valley are more likely to buy them - and Whalley is within the limits that I restrict my driving to.
