I think you've got the wrong heading for this thread, there are a lot of old shops in Accrington, if you mean oldest businesses, then what about Porters Decorators In Warner St. Then there are a few pubs or hotels if you prefer, that are still operating on their original site, The Railway Hotel on Blackburn Rd, has had the same name since 1847.

Re: Oldest shop in Accrington

There aint a shop that would come anywhere near a pub, on that basis would think Marsdens leather shop n Porters both on Warner st certainly longer than Henry Gregsons imho.

Re: Oldest shop in Accrington

What about some of the stalls in Accy Market, some of them have had the same name for yonks.
But the oldest surviving business is in Warner St, & is definitely Porters Decorators, must be well over 100 years in the same place, same name.

That one came long after Len Rowbottoms and then the one across the road on the "Technical Arcade". Got my second bike at Len's (he and my cousin were best mates), in 1952/3 - a hand built Hill's Special.
I remember a couple of the shops in Warner Street when I used to buy tropical fish etc at Baldry's at the top of Warner St.
I also remember the Off Licence at the corner of Washington Street/Stanley Street in the 1940s which is still there
