Opening a can of worms............
................ well a tin a spaghetti actually, or baked beans if you like.
When you open a can of something do you wash your can opener every time?
If so, why? If not, why not?

Re: Opening a can of worms............
I wash it every time because I think it must get something on it from the contents of the can and I visualise bacteria growing and multiplying and then entering the next can I open and contaminating the food. Busman says I'm too fussy and it doesn't need washing every time.

Re: Opening a can of worms............
Yep! I wash mine every time it's used no matter what's been in the can. If it's been used it needs washing.

Re: Opening a can of worms............
I wash mine every time, Like Willow, I can visualise bacteria contaminating my next can, especially as I don't use it very often. It would be sat in the drawer happily multiplying for weeks until the next use.

Re: Opening a can of worms............
It goes in the dishwasher everytime its used. In fact it seems to spend its life in their waiting to get washed. I usually end up taking it out and giving it a quick wash before I use it then throw it back it again..

Re: Opening a can of worms............
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who likes a clean can opener. I don't chuck it in a bowl of water though. Like my cutlery, I don't put that in the bowl either because my mum used to have ivory handled knives and I was always having it drummed into me that they must never sit in water as it would ruin them so all cutlery is kept separate and washed carefully by hand and immediately put to dry, even though there isn't an ivory handle in sight!

Re: Opening a can of worms............
I don't wash it every time. I only wash it if i see food on it. They get rusty anyway if you wash them too much and then you can't use it.
