Re: Park Shed Mill
Park Mill built c1851 by Lang Bridge and William Barnes (William was the very first person to be buried in Burnely Rd cemetery)
Nearly 1000 looms in this mill, they dyed their own yarn on the site. Products included plain and fancy goods in cotton, silk, and worsted fabrics. various owners till early 1900's.
after WW11 there was a reduction in looms. in 1959 mill closed. in 1965 Associated Dairies acquired the mill for use as a repair and garage area

Glad you found the location of Park Shed mate. All the above info is correct. When I was a boy working as a lorry driver's mate, I loaded out of there many times. I bloke named Smith owned the place then. Here is a picture of the sort of loads that we picked up there. Hope this is of interest.

Re: Park Shed Mill
Love this photo! Thanks for sharing. Is it parked in front of the area where Morrisons is now? Is that Barnes Street behind the wagon with perhaps what was an old Church in the background (now Barnes Street garage?) Am just trying to get my bearings! :-)

Re: Park Shed Mill
Sorry mate, I mat have confused you here. The load was from Park Shed, but I took the picture in Manchester, outside of the premises of a firm called the Bleacher Association.

I took this picture at the same time as the lorry was pulling into the yard. The picutres were taken in 1959, and when I look at them now, I often wonder what became of the little child stood by the gate!

My Auntie worked at Park Shed when I was a little girl I used to go to the side door which was almost facing across from bottom of Oswald St and take her dinner which my gran had made for her.My grandma lived at the bottom of Oswald St so it was easy to just nip over with her dinner.

Re: Park Shed Mill
For a time when the weaving finished and Whitewell Dairies started using the mill part of the mill (I think the corner bounded by Park Street and Stanley Street) was used by Whitewell Ices, which was a breakaway from Whitewell Dairies. After a time the ice cream makers moved up to Clayton le Moors and Associated Dairies took over Whitewell Dairies.

Re: Park Shed Mill
One of the things I remember about the war was the barrage balloon which was tethered by a thick cable at the side of Park Shed Mill just below Park Street.
