Re: Plinths on accy market hall
Speaking as one said Scouser the L'Pool 1 complex now finished (admittedly it's mainly shops) but there's also Coffee places & cafes too. It also helps link the regenerated (Liverpool South) Docklands, Echo arena-Maritime Museum-Beatles Museum-Museum of Liverpool life etc into a more accessible unit whereas before you'd visit the Dock area then have to hike up over Paradise St/Hanover St & the rest of it to get to St.Johns (Liverpool Centre & North).
Plus as others have mentioned, the City Architecture is really quite special. Plus our 2 Cathedrals our 2 Footy Stadia (3 if you count Tranmere Rovers ), the cleaned up waterfront & historic buildings, the 3 graces spring to mind, one of the most iconic & recognised panoramas the world over, by the way ! Not just to us Scallies, but thousands of Immigrants & Migrants, American service men & Matelots from the World over.
Can't you just tell I'm still fiercely loyal & proud of my heritage.

Re: Plinths on accy market hall
I must make a bigger effort to get there with my camera.
It sounds like my kind of place.

Sorry Dave meant to post earlier that I didn't want to offend my favourite Scouser with my prejudices, knew it wouldn't be long before you appeared.
Yes I know all about the architecture, georgian terraces, waterfront etc. My favourite building is the Mersey Funnel aka RC cathedral.
Still doesn't mean I like the city, sorry.

Re: Plinths on accy market hall
It wouldn't do for us all to like the same places.......there'd be no room on the bus!

It's fine Sue, not offended as such, as you see that's also one of our great strengths, we can take criticism & accept other peoples views without getting all narked about it.

Yeah right.

Perhaps that's why you dislike Liverpool, and the Liverpudlian accent.

You're not getting away with that!
My day was long before yours and things change. We didn't have to go far to get a good education. My undergraduate course and social life at Preston were second to none and the obtainable glittering prize was in 1968 when I took the Guild Mayor's Prize at Preston and went to Sussex University afterwards for my doctorate.

Er...'twas a joke.
Hence the green, goofy face thing, at the end of the post.
Everyone knows 'my day', wasn't your day.
Besides, might not have been true in the dim and distant past, or even today.
But's it's a fact that 'in my day', all those who didn't get the offers they hoped for, ended up at Preston.
I'm glad you had a nice time studying in Preston.
I didn't even know Lucie Clayton had a charm school up there.
(^ smiley.)

Re: Plinths on accy market hall
Anyway, live and let live.
If people are free to slag off cities, I'm free to slag off a town's students.
