Question for mothers/nurses...
ok as my other thread i've had a baby girl
she's not exactly too keen on the drinkin milk all she had today was about 2 ounce milk - surely this cant be right?
the nurses have apparently said that its normal etc some babies develop the hunger later on...
but i aint too sure. any advice - she's two days old...

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
Have you tried different milk. Maybe your little girl would prefer a different make. All 5 of mine always had Cow & Gate. Strangely in hospital they give the babies cold milk. As soon as get her home you will be giving her warm milk. Maybe she does not like it cold, breast milk is warm so I can't understand the hospital giving it to them at room temperature. I would not worry too much, I am sure the midwifes know what they are talking about.

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
It's a shame Lettie is on holiday as she's a midwife but I wouldn't worry. My baby was initially breast fed and you dont have a clue how much milk they are getting. When they do drink a lot half of it tends to get spewed back up. I'd just keep trying with small amounts, the midwife will come around every few days initially aswell.

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
Speaking as a mother of five myself I wouldnt worry about it - they do all sorts of weird things in the first week and it just takes time to get them used to being in the world - mine never did much more than sleep in the first week - relax and enjoy her - when she wants it she will go for it

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
Well Mani you bring back memories lol my son was & is still a pain where eating is, whereas my other no probs certainly with baby milk, my son would only manage an ounce or 2 for the 1st month or 2 on 4 hourly basis & was slower on reaching guidelines per stage whearas my 1st born geee couldn't get enough LOL but he's growing thats main thing lol. Every baby is individual & will go at their own pace, she'll be fine Mani i know its easy to worry & compare, she'll catch up. Congratulations to you & the misses btw

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
Yeah all babies are different. My first GREEDY GUTS, first feed he took a full bottle ( the ones they give you in hospital ) and half of another one!!! The nurses couldy believe it, and called him " greedy baby" while we were there. Yet my youngest didn't have much he prefered little but often.
Then again you have to go on the weight of the baby too, first baby was 8lb 8oz and second 7lb 11oz.

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
My first was quite fussy, particularly about the temperature of her feed and actually liked it really cold.
My second couldn't care less, he just wanted as much of it as possible as often as possible - but then again, he was 10lb 3oz when he was born!
I wouldn't worry too much Mani, they all lose weight in the first three days anyway and then start building up again.

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
My first was a "little and often" feeder. But she's none the worse for it. In fact she eats like a gannet now at 15 yrs old. In the hospital they used to try to make me feed her for longer and make her take more but she ended up just bringing it all back up again so I let her go at her own pace and she was much happier.

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
I fed both my babies on SMA. They too was small and often and nearly every 2 hours for the first few weeks. I was very lucky if i could get more than 2 ounces into them before they fell asleep again.
I was very frustrated, very tired. Perserverance, it all comes together in the end.

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
They are all different is my answer.
I will ask why you would question the hospitals answer and advice. But rely on a message board? I have often required a second opinion and I would not question you on that as we all like to double check when we are worried. But my process would be nurse to doctor not nurse to message board. Equally I would want to check medical advice found on a message board by going to a nurse. not the other way around. No disrespect.
Hope this question doesn't get me in as much trouble LOL

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
How many of the people who have answered him are trained midwives?
How many trained midwives are there here?
I am a trained doctor. ask me something.
That wasn't sarcasm. it has a point if you can see it.

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
Well have you ever had a chat with a mate because you are worried about something??
You know problem shared problem halved. Just because Mani asked a question on here, doesn't mean they will take everything as Gospal.
Just to chat with other parents can sometimes ease your mind, when people start saying " oh yes my baby was like that".

Re: Question for mothers/nurses...
I fully and totally agree with you. But push comes to shove and I would go with a real live nurse and doctor than a poster on a message board who may or may not be who or what they say they are.
I do hope mani mind is now at rest and all is well though ?
