Re: question for those who have to organise/sort out/deal with stocktakes at work..
I spent 10 years organising & doing them as a Warehouse Manager , now I sit on the Fence as a Buyer/Material Controller and just audit them. One of the best systems I found was what we called a Perpetual Stocktake where over a three month period all stocks were physically checked against computer stocks and discrepencies were recorded and changed with the approval of the Operations Manager, It was hard at first but once everyone understood how it worked and the part they played in it discrepencies were virtually eliminated. Some In the days before locations were on the computer system we used, everything was recorded manually code, colour, quantity and what shelf location for deliveries, issues and returns and then inputted into an Excel Spreadsheet it worked a treat, to then be sorted in whatever configuration you wanted.
But if I'm honest I do not miss all the hassle of stocktakes
The other thing that might work well is just in time deliveries particulary in terms of Stock Levels
How are the Breakages recorded?
Maybe as things get damaged if they are recorded and stocks amended accordingly then the discrepencies should become less?
