Retro arcade game

I don't know if I've asked this before or not but can anyone remember this old arcade game?

I can't remember the name of it but it was around about the pacman and space invaders time so very early on. It was a series of squares that you had to lead your bug around, once you'd been around all sides of the square it blocked in to complete the level. The levels got more and more complicated as they had more squares on and then your bug got chased by something else which tried to block your route around.

I was the undisputed queen of this at Disc n' Tape and I want to find it again. Anyone got any idea what I'm talking about?

I think it was called caterpillar if I remember rightly Gayle.

No, and you can keep the noisy blighters up your end of Ossy, thank you very much. If they start terrorising the ducks down here you might find roasted peacock on the menu!

Re: Retro arcade game

Gayle, there is a program called MAME which allows you to play all these old games on your PC/Phone/PDA/ etc

There is a few grey issues about copyright on teh games themselves (Referred to as ROMs) as some are legal(that old that they are classsed as abandonware) but some are definately a bit dodgy

Re: Retro arcade game

i have a similar quest, i remember from the late 70s, or 80s, a game that at the time was in the duke of wellington pub, when cliff n cath ran the pub, i seem to remember their son being somewot of an expert at the game 9I wonder why!).

The game was simple in that you guided a yellow balloon through various tunnels/passageways, the balloon was constantly rocking to and fro, swinging from side to side as you guided it through various obsticles and screens.

It was a facinating game, that took many attempts to progress through the levels, graphics were quite basic, but game play was excllent.

Anybody remember the name of this game? Know where i can get hold of it? Would be intersted to hear about other peoples experiences or knowledge etc

Re: Retro arcade game

It was similar in principle to Qix but not quite. The squares were already laid out (it wasn't one big square but a few different sized ones laid out) you just had to follow the paths around - in Qix it's one big square that you have to fill in.

Thank you for everyone's help on this.

Re: Retro arcade game

thanx guys, ive checked out the link, but the game in question is not on there, even though it was from that time, it was yellow, it swung to and fro, you guided it through various levels, and various obstacles, all the time keeping it from hitting the sides, or it would pop, and u would loose it! I rewmember on one level, a mans face would appear, with big, fat cheeks, he would try to blow your balloon off course, and into the sides. i have seen similar things, or games with similar qualities, but never exactly the game that i used to play, im almost sure it was a taito classic?
