I wouldn't like to be in your shoes, glad I don't have to worry about things like that now. I know where you are coming from though the move up to senior school is nerve wracking enough, so it is understandable that your daughter is concerned about being sent home. As you say you don't have any choice and will just have to go with the schools policy on this one. Just sticks in the throat when not all people do

Re: school uniform.......

I went to Paddock House in 1954. At the time there was only 1 tailor for the school, J.B.Smith of Union Rd., and you had no choice.

I can remember going to be measured, then fitted, for 2 navy blue pinafore dresses, 2 cream shirts, a cardigan, tie, navy blue overcoat and velour hat. The dresses, shirts and coats were all hand stitched and the bill was enormous.

When we went into the 3rd form we had to have brown coats, again hand stitched, and those dreadful mortar-boards. We also had a totally different Summer uniform of blue and white striped dresses, navy blazers (yep, hand stitched) and panama hats. Even the PE clothes were "unique", blue aertex shirt and brown pleated cullottes, and we had to have hockey sticks, pads and boots, plimsolls and tennis rackets.

Over the years my mother paid a fortune to have me looking absolutely awful. Just be thankful things have changed as much as they have.

Have they said why they're insisting on a particular brand? Why do they have to be Trutex?

They have just insisted it because of quality & that the uniform is to be top notch in order of presenting the school in appearance - well thats the splurge we're told anyway lol

Think shirts and tie work out cheaper in the end though mel ..and they wear a lot better than sweat/polo shirts, which are susceptable to colour loss and shrinking and look really sloppy after a few months. A set of decent white/blue shirts can last a least a couple of years .. more if your children don't grow too fast. No answer to the ironing though, but just think how smart they will look after your effort ...

Worked with a lady who had a 33" leg .. wow.. longest legs I have ever seen .. terrific.. but what a problem, she did have some pants that were half mast. Shame there are not many 'dressmakers' bespoke tailors around these days. Know could prove expensive, however, could chose a really good fabric for her and if you consider the cost per wear, may work out cheaper in the long run and will fit a treat.

How silly.I bought my son's white shirts from Abbey Street 2 years ago. They're not Trutex.I don't know what make they are, they're just the cheapo ones. They still look lovely and very smart. How white shirts look depends very much on how they're treated and how you wash them.If you wash them correctly and look after them they will look good regardless of what make they are.Trutex are not infallible.Even they will look scruffy and grey if they're washed with jeans and other dark clothing. It's ridiculous that this school is telling you they have to be a certain brand.
How will they be monitoring this situation anyway?Do they intend to peer down all the children's necks to check the labels?
