Apparently the Soulder of Mutton is closing soon-anyone know more about this?

I shall miss it if it does close down

Pity they didn't use it to often though, talking to a guy the other day and he went in at 10pm on a Friday night and there was only 1 person in the place

when we had the meet up there was only us in virtually all sat night

I remember it well as I spent quite a bit of time there back in the late seventies. I'm surprised that it's lasted so long really. It was quite common for people to drink and drive in those days. No-one seemed to bother about it much and the Shoulder is one of those pubs which needs some sort of passing trade.

Sad.

I used to live on Fielding Lane and in summer it was really nice to walk up to the Shoulder and have a cold drink on a hot day - it was the reward for the walk. And going home was no problem, just point me in the right direction and stagger back down the hill.

Exactly what we used to do PJ (pre-jack) years-take the dog for a walk up there (used to live on Willows lane) and have a nice cold beer or five then let the dog drag us back home

yeah i read that they,ve got planning to turn it into a house ... apparently they only got 70 signitures on a petition to keep it open .... but if people dont provide the trade then like most of the pubs over the years they close...it is a shame though...

I've read all the protests about the closures in the papers, and it is sad.

When we had two Accy web meets there last summer, both times besides us there were only about 6-10 other people in, hardly enough custom for amyone to make a living.

It's ok saying there was a need for it, but if those people who protested went in a bit more it wouldn't have closed. Simple economics.

I just found this old thread through a newer one.
The only time I went in the place was once when I spent a week driving Accy buses.
Worst job in the world but my conductor took me in for a pint at 9.30 am when we turned round there.
My old workmate from Gilbraith's lived opposite, name of Jimmy Wiggins. I believe he had a leg off last time I heard but is now deceased.

Worked with Jimmy at Shopfitters Gremlin, he did have a leg of and as you said he's sadly no longer with us

used to be a booming pub in the 60s I lived in a farm cottage on arnold jaques farm Every friday walt and me used to be there playing does in the taproom Oh what happy days. ronnie culshaw 75 and still breathing !!!!!!!
