Yes, it's recently changed hands, but was there when I was in it in June.

I have found them to be quite expensive lately, I use roasting bags for my joints and I also did a buffet the other week, I get the bags at Asda and also found paper plates, foil trays etc. to be a lot cheaper at Asda. Don't know if they do paper bags for craft but think it is quite likely that they do. I will be going in the next few days if you want me to have a look for you I will

What's the advantage of using these? Is it just to keep your oven clean? Could you use them for roasting a chicken?

Re: String/paper bag shop

Its still open as I passed it today.

I've always found them to be cheap and they tend to stock those obscure things that ASDA et al will never be bothered with. As suc I'm happyto pay teh od copper more for soem things to keep them there for when I have more eclectic requirements.

They stop the meat from shrinking and also cut down on cooking time. I have used them for chicken, it was ok. Got the tip off Dave who used to have the butchers on Nuttall Street, he used to do his own cooked meats and said they were great. Have to agree I like them!

Sounds interesting. I might give them a go. Do they help to keep your oven clean too?

Thats what I thought until I bought stuff to serve a buffet on the other week, bought all the plates etc. from there, when I looked in Asda they were a lot cheaper. The roasting bags are £1:25 for six in Warner Street and about 70p for ten at Asda, so you save more than a few extra coppers!

Yes, you put some water in, season your meat, put it in the bag and seal it. I get a joint for about a fiver from Asda and it takes about an hour and ten mins at gas mark5, then take it out and it carries on cooking in the bag. They are great!!

I'm obsessed with keeping my oven clean (I need treatment), so I'll get some of those bags the next time I go shopping. Thanks for the tip.
