Re: Tesco Nelson

They've fought off all opposition to open a new Tesco in Padiham, even though there is a big Tesco Extra in Burnley. In Rossendale there is Tesco Rawtenstall and another literally 1 mile up the road in Haslingden.

So I was a bit skeptical that they would close Accy Tesco. Even if it loses £60k per week (as rumoured-I'm not saying it's true), that is nothing to Tesco. £1 in every £7 spent in the UK is spent at Tesco. They could hide that loss simply by delaying payment to suppliers by about 3 minutes. They would rather stay open at a loss than allow their competitors to step in.

However if they have really closed Nelson Tesco, I guess that shows that it can happen. (I bet the reason is, they're planning to open an even bigger store at Colne to compete with the new Sainsbury's there

Anyhow, I went for the first time last weekend. The massive car park was half full and it was pretty busy inside. Not dead like some would have you believe.

You missed out the "massive" in the car park. It was quite late on Saturday and I bet there were as many cars on it as Asda at that time.

You've just reminded me there is a positive to Tesco versus Asda in Accy: Asda car park can be a nightmare to get in and out of. Also you end up driving about a mile in circles to get on it. Tesco is a lot easier AND it is sheltered from Accy weather !

Having said that, Tesco is of course too big. They are taking over the country. This is an aspect of them I don't like, and I'd still be surprised if they closed the Accy store, even if it is losing money.

So long as you don't go in the sea(bath with the salts), with your watch on you will be alright.

Just remember to wind it up first

Re: Tesco Nelson

It makes you wonder that instead of spending loads of money on the Tesco Express and Extra in Accy they could have opened a Tesco Metro where the old Kwik Save was at the start of Union Street instead of that B&M Bargains?. It would been reaaaaaaaaally cheaper I think than the Extra and Express.
