Re: That Cat!
Hiya
Feel free to ignore me as I am a newbie, but I am like you, had dogs but recently succumbed to getting a cat.
Bob (cat) loves pouncing and attacking- if it moves its hers, be it toys, my feet, legs etc. She also has what i call hormonal does where she wants to be petted but if you try, she doesnt like it and attacks.
I think it was Sparkie that suggested the water pistol. This works wonders (even if its just so she runs off to get dry and gives me some peace!!). She knows that she's pushed it too far when that happens. Also i have given her a 'tap', and picked her up (despite the pain) and put her somewhere away from me and anything fun. Everytime i tell her 'claws in' so she has figured out what shes doing wrong
She still does her pouncing thing now (suppose its instinct), but when she does, she keeps her claws in, and when she bites, she doesnt press down. The unbelievable bit is she has never scratched or bitten my 3 year old who she loves playing with, even when he does get a bit rough. It may help if the cat has its own 'space'- Bob has a wardrobe she can go on with a bed on it. That way if shes had enuff and is just crammed, she can disappear out of everyones way and calm down.
Hope that this helps. I know what you mean tho, I couldnt sleep with my feet out of the duvet for about a month!!!!
