hi i was wondering if anyone can help my dad found a picture in a book of THE FEATHERS HOTEL, whalley road , clayton le moors dated 1965.Have asked around but no one seems to know of this place or remember it, so if it rings a bell to anyone and where it was actually situated in clayton would be a great help thanx

Re: the feathers hotel
The only thing that I can think of is that 'Feathers' is a hotel group. Maybe they owned something like Sparth House at one time ?
Wild speculation.

Re: the feathers hotel
I think the name and the date don't coincide. Find ( in the library) an old ( 1900?) directory of the whole of Lancashire and look the name up to give you the location.Remember to look at both beerhouses and hotel/inns, as these had different sorts of licences. I don't think you will find the name in a local directory. It isn't in my 1951 one. If you can come up with the name of the book, it will help. There weren't many local books published in the 1960s.

Re: the feathers hotel
I have lived in Clayton since 1966...but prior to that my Dad used to take me to the Canal Bridge to watch the Whit walks(early 50's)........I don't ever remember seeing a pub called The Feathers.
Would be interested to see any answers to this.

Would it be possible to scan the photograph in the book?
I'm sure people will be able to help you more if they can see the place in question.

Re: the feathers hotel
Could this be The Game Cock? It's on the Clayton side of Whalley, the road is possibly called Whalley Rd and they have feathers.

Re: the feathers hotel
My 1st ex was from Higham (near Padiham).
I do recall him mentioning 'the Feathers' from time to time.
I think you need to look further afield to the Pendle and Ribble Valley areas.
