The Stop & Rest
My dad was a regular in the Stop & Rest from the late 40's to the late 70's and every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, he'd stroll over there to enjoy a few pints with his mates. From the late 60's onwards, I would go along with him quite regularly and spend many a happy evening standing in the "deep end" enjoying the craic with him and his cronies, along with mein hosts, Jim & Barbara Lucas.
Not been in there for knocking on 30 years now, so I was thinking of dropping in for a few beers one Saturday afternoon in the close season, purely to revisit old memories and to stand in the "deep end" again and raise a glass to the old fella. Anyway, to get to the point of this rambling diatribe, is the place still the same as it was? Will my memories be shattered by discovering that it's now a converted restaurant or a plastic and chrome theme pub? Or is it still the same old Stop? Could anybody tell me?

Re: The Stop & Rest
I work there. Just been in this afternoon actually. I dont remember the "old days" no, my memory only goes back to Andy having it. But I believe it hasn't changed though. Its had a lick of paint inside, but its still a traditional local pub. We have Curry Night and quiz on Wednesdays from 6pm and an artist on Friday nights.
Its a lovely family pub. We have 2 real ales on also. If your going to go in Wynonie let me know when and i'll let you know if i'm working.
Give it a go, im sure you wont be disappointed!

Re: The Stop & Rest
Cheers for the info. Sounds like the old place hasn't changed that much, so I'll be dropping in soon. Will let you know when I do, Lolly.

Re: The Stop & Rest
I remember Jim and Barabra. It was my parents regular, so they probably new your dad.
The current landlady used to be a go-go dancer in Manchester, when George Best used to frequent such places.
It's still a nice friendly pub.

It gets packed at the weekends, being small, probably why it hasn't been a meet venue.

Re: The Stop & Rest
I went in there on my 18th birthday 1960. The licencees were then Ron & Isabel Potts.
I last went in about 3 years ago when my son's band played there.
I don't think it is too small for a meet - the lounge is bigger than the Stag lounge.
