But there is only one Wales, therefore has no plural.

This is true. Unless one considers North Wales as being sort of separate from South Wales.

Wasn't the opening post a bit tongue in cheek? A bit of, well you know, humour?

That's how I read it anyway.

And now for my two pennorth of plural countries, how about Honduras, Philippines, Comoros and Laos?
