If you have to pay for it (and my opinion is that you should not!) then make sure that you get receipts for it all.
You get a basic amount to cover clothing etc off in your tax allowance, but if its more you will need the receipts to prove it.
When I last had to wear a uniform I had 3 of everything, 1 to wear, 1 in the wash & 1 for emergencies.
If your uniform is required by the employer them IMO it is upto them to provide & pay for it. There should also be no discrimination between what men & women have to wear, I.E. men should not be forced to wear a tie when women do not have to wear a similar item. but they do grrr... I hate ties.
(I got a clip on tie & never do up the top button, looks a mess but I am "wearing" it lol).
