Wanted - man with a van!!
I am looking for a nice man with a van to come and clear out my garage please!!! I was let down by someone on Friday who I met in the pub, who said he would come round and do it - a very geneous offer, except I think he just wanted my phone number!!
There's a bit to clear, some old garden rubbish including trees, an old fridge, cooker, a couple of old portable fires and some other rubbish, but I'm sure with a large van it would only be one (perhaps 2) trip(s) to the tip.
I'm a local lass living in Accrington.
I will pay obviously, anyone willing to help this poor damsel in distress?!
Please PM me, thank you xxx

Re: Wanted - man with a van!!
Have you got a license to take your stuff to the tip in a van?
If not, you will need to apply for one through HBC, they take about 5 days to come through. If you manage to find a man with a van, the van must not have more than 6 wheels.
I found all this out when I had to get rid of my old suite a couple of weeks ago. My brother in law has had all sorts of trouble with the license etc. He has a van and I can ask him, but he does work full time and you will need to apply for a license first..

Re: Wanted - man with a van!!
Thanks for that Lettie, and no I dont have a license! I have heard something about this license being needed before, which is why I havent just hired a van. The bloke who let me down said he already had the license cos of his trade, so was hoping to get a man with a van...and a license! if thats possible!?

Re: Wanted - man with a van!!
Hello -
I recently went to the tip (Accrington) with some rubbish in my van and was told I need a license, boots, Jacket and hard hat. Also, its £70 per ton - first they sell it to you and then they want payment for it back.

Re: Wanted - man with a van!!
A licence required to use the tip ? ............who are clowns that make up these bloody daft rules , no wonder the backstreets are full of crap, seems to be that on getting a job with local govt. requires one to lobotomized, why can't you just call up the refuse dept. give them a rough estimate of what you have and make an appointment for them to come and collect it during a 4 hour window.
How do you manage to get rid of toxics, (old paint, dead car batteries etc)are there drop-off points around town to get rid such stuff ?

Re: Wanted - man with a van!!
lol didn't you realise that steel jack. if you can fit it in an estate car you don't need one, and you don't pay as far as I know.

Re: Wanted - man with a van!!
skip requires effort - me lifting rubbish to throw into it lol was looking for an easy option, although it doesnt really look like there is one. cant really throw an old fridge and cooker in a skip either. just thought someone with a van could take it all off my hands for a price, but doesnt look like its gonna be that simple!! cant believe they want £70 a ton. thanks for your replies and your suggestions.xx

Re: Wanted - man with a van!!
Hey Kisser, I hope you get the help you need. That's the kinda stuff I like to do for older folks in the community. I have a full sized pick-up truck.
That was really odd for me during my trip to England, I didn't see one pick-up truck, not even the small ones! Here in this part of Virginia, most families have a truck. It helps with getting firewood, hauling mulch, and, as in this case, helping out friends in need! Are they not allowed or just very highly taxed or due to the poor gas mileage?
