We need a house for 8. Council houses?
Hi all,
I hope someone can help me with this. I need a house for 8 of us, 1 adult 3 boys & 4 girls. Ive heard of someone living in a council house that was knocked through. Does anyone know anything about this?
I'm loathe to ring them but i will eventually, just want to have some kind of ideas first.

Re: We need a house for 8. Council houses?
i reckon you'd be lucky to get a 3 bedroomed house the way things are going at the moment, oh and by the way, people who are moving into council houses/social housing are only getting very short tenancies, i think its 2 and a half years and then they move you on (don't know if its inforce yet or not but thats what the government have been on about) and they will only pay upto £100 a week rent, the rest you have to put to yourself

There should be laws about how much rent can be charged £100 a week IMO is FAR to much.
Good Luck Unless you homeless I would expect the waiting list to be large, probably best trying private.

Re: We need a house for 8. Council houses?
I have not found any with more than 4 bedrooms advertised .
the cheapest is -
4 bedroom semi-detached house to rent in Abbeydale Way, Accrington, Lancashire, BB5
PS noticed the bedrooms are 'tichy' so you will need bunk beds

Re: We need a house for 8. Council houses?
When I moved over here 3 years ago I was paying £95 a week for a 2 bedroomed house on Nuttall St, which is not exactly a 5 star residential area

Re: We need a house for 8. Council houses?
Thankyou for all your replies. It doesn't sound very hopefull does it? I spoke to Hyndburn homes today & they said they were in touch with other housing associations, so fingers crossed.
