Re: Wedding venues
Do the ASDA still have that idiot who acts as a greeter of sorts? You know, the old boy? It's just that I did'nt see him last time I was in there.....I saw Willow and Busman, though, and some characters up and down with a TV camera....maybe they'd come to film a wedding reception...."That's right, Sir..we've two on today...first one is by the Pizza stall and the second one, half an hour later, is down by the womens personal hygiene aisle....."

Re: Wedding venues
Fantastic idea Tealeaf. Instead of forking out for wedding favours, all my guests can go home with a black eye.
In the Whitakers is it a function room as such or just an area?

Re: Wedding venues
It is a function room which is off the side of the pub. i reckon it could easily seat 50 for a reception.

Re: Wedding venues
I'll certainly vouch for Whittakers. Paul and Sarah who run it are friends of mine. They took it over a couple of years back and turned the food bit around. The carvery is excellent and the atmosphere friendly. The other pub up from the Whittakers is the Griffin. There's a new landlord/lady there at the moment and I haven't been in since the change. It is smaller than Whittakers but my sister had her wedding do there a few years back, and they did a nice buffet. It was only a small family do though.

Re: Wedding venues
I seem to recall a few years ago someone had their wedding do in the cafe in ASDA. They must have been pretty desperate.[/QUOTE]
I remember this wedding it was early morning about 9am as the pubs didn't open till 11am they all went to Asda for a 99p breakfast, this story made the news of the world.

Re: Wedding venues
We're having a buffet at The Observatory near Queens Park. It looks very nice and meals we've had there have been good so we hope it lives up to our expectations.

Re: Wedding venues
Hi
Have you considered a cricket club for your evening do?Church,Bacup and Haslingden all have nice big function rooms and would be very economical.
