Re: What job sector do you work in?
I work in retail and love it, i only work part time as i want to spend time with my 2 year old as well.I started on the shop on april 2005 and i must admit i would not change it for nothing, i know retail is not a big thing but i just enjoy my job and the people i work with, at the minute im just a sales assistant but my job is quite busy and i like it, im gonna start trainning soon for 3rd key holder and who knows maybe one day i will be an area manager.

Re: What job sector do you work in?
Well i have the most important & hardest job of all......................... bringing up the next generation of workers & tax payers, also providing learning & example for life skills for the next generation.
I've worked before having children, volunteered my time whilst having them doing various voluntary work in the community, would love a paid job & career but not feesable atm but i do housework so that our worker & future workers are fed & have a clean stable environment as best i can - not the most glamorous, valued or fun of professions , & sometimes has its rewards but i have to come bottom of the rung till my parenting ends.
So cant tick any box i do all in one just not paid hehehe

Re: What job sector do you work in?
I work as a civil servant but after I get home I am a full time parent, as my wife has to go and care for the horses.
I also am an unpaid taxi driver, cook and confidante.
Also at work I am a TU rep so legal expertise and counsellor I suppose. We are a multi talented group on here aren't we ?

Re: What job sector do you work in?
I was in Dhss (now Work & Pensions) for 35 years. Large government departments have a policy of changing the duties of employees every few years so that eventually that employee gains a wide knowledge, and also means that the work rarely becomes boring because new knowledge is being learned throughout the career.
The part of my career which I enjoyed most was the last 8 years, when I looked after the maintenance and refurbishment of a government building, and controlled all its budgets (except salaries), and had no contact with the general public other than maintenance contractors etc.
Sadly that job was being privatised, so I took up the offer of an early pension and retired

Re: What job sector do you work in?
I was a Health care worker for 9 years. Gave up for a short while, will be searching for another job after Christmas, as I have never spent a full Christmas with my children in 9 years due to the crap hours of care work.
I have an NVQ level 3 In elderly care. I also have training in .......
First Aid
Fire safety training
Manual Handling
Palliative care
Dementia care
Team Building
Abuse of vulnerable adults
Dietary requirements
Dying, Death and Bereaved
Health and safety
Pressure relieving care
Book keeping
and probably a few more that I have forgotten about.

Re: What job sector do you work in?
Take note Slinks, there is some funding from comic relief (no jokes please) to raise awareness of elder abuse (no idea why they dropped the y of, lol)
So there are going to be jobs around to work in this area, won't be working direct with the elders!!! but may well be rewarding all the same

Re: What job sector do you work in?
I work in the social care setting for LCC. The best thing about the job is the people i support and that every day is differant. The worst is that i work for LCC and their uncaring attitude towards staff.

You will find that in any care sector really. Which is a real shame, as MOST carers are damn hard workers.
As the saying goes, a little appreciation goes a long way.
