Re: What was the name of.......
Yes, that was a John Smiths house.
I had a big crush on (Neville) the son of the landlord....I was only 12 at the time, but thought he was very handsome...he(alas) never noticed me.

But thanks Kate.

Re: What was the name of.......
Wasn't there a cinema next to the little Crown, the name Ritz comes to mind like the dance place.I remember queuing up to see a film there can't recall the name of the film but all teenagers went because Frankie Lane was in it singing That Old Black Magic in the film.
P.S. When you look back we were as daft as all teenagers through the years.

Think it was 63 or 64 Margaret, when I started serving my time with Townley's Joiners, the row in Union Street was the first job I worked on that was 62

Re: What was the name of.......
I always thought the little Crown was the one on Whalley Road that Stanley have taken over? Surely, there couldn't have been three Crown pubs in the town, all operating at the same time?

Re: What was the name of.......
No Steve, In Accrington, there was a little Crown(which was the one on the Ritz corner) and there was the big Crown...which was near Joe Morts dancing place(I'm talking early sixties here).
If we are talking about nowadays, then the little Crown is the one near the Stanley ground.
The little Crown in Accrington closed mid sixties and the licence was taken by the Astronaut pub in Union St.
Maybe you are too young to remember the little Crown in Church Street.
This pub we are talking about, was only the size of a terraced house and the licensed premises were just one room.

Already told 'em that .....do concentrate Retlaw
Oh, and the one at Dyke Nook. Not the one near the Dyke Nook house up Whalley Road, 'cause is listed as Old Accrington. Further down near The Castle.
Know you know all this, just wanted you to confirm the Dyke Nook area for me ('cause I knew you wouldn't be able to resist this thread).
