Re: Whats changed?

I've driven through about five years ago. To be honest there are chavs everywhere. I live in Oxford and believe me there are alot of "chavs" here not to mention other undesirables. The one thing I miss is the hills and countryside. Its so flat here.

There's no gold in these 'ere hills - it's all in the hearts of folks that live here

Re: Whats changed?

I see you mentioned Springhill school, is Springhill an area you have your eye on or are you leaving your options open ?

Re: Whats changed?

I used to live in Springhill - but fancy Avenue Parade way or Manchester Road. But still keeping my options open. Have been looking on rightmove to rent temporarily before I buy..............Having said that I do like Ossy as well - depends on my budget - things aren't what they used to be but nice to know the Northern warmth hasn't cooled. Its like living in Siberia here!

Re: Whats changed?

Gone downhill in the past 10 years - I moved out 6 years ago and had to sell my house a knock down price because no-one wants to live there.

PS - a combination of Blythes pollution and traffic on Henry St coming off Dunkenhalgh Way

PPS there was a thread titled 'What do you like about Church'
I wrote-
I have lived in Church 3 times
1st at the top of Dill Hall -1961 to 1966
2nd half way down Dill hall -1985 to 1991
3rd on Barnes St - 1991 to 2002

Dill Hall is not considered to part of Church by Church residents, who live in that group of streets hemmed in by the canal, Henry St and Blackburn Rd.
The situation in those streets began to deteriorate when Dunkenhalgh Way opened so that Henry St was choked with traffic and at rush hour there was no way of getting in and out of those streets by the only 2 ways - Barnes St and Church Lane. Traffic noise escalated, litter increased -people wanted out, but not many wanted to buy - property developers bought - bad tenants moved in = gradual deterioration to what it is today.
I feel sad about it too -was Ok in 1991 -friendly folk and all that - but by 2002 was thankful to leave

Re: Whats changed?

I moved back four years ago, after living in London for seventeen years.

Thankfully the friedliness of the people hasn't changed, nor has the beautiful countryside on our doorstep.

The cheap stuff that used to be for sale on the market, is now available in one of the many discount shops, which you'll find interspersed between the charity shops.

As for chavs, we've always had them, it's just that they are just easier to identify, now they all wear a uniform.

The council is still run by idiots, and people that failed to make a mark in the 'real' world.

The Coppice is still there, and will make an ideal island home, when global warming means your present home in Oxford is once more reclaimed by the sea.
