There is a photo on this forum taken by one of our members dated 1967 and the rails to Manchester have gone.

Not unless they have done some major consturction work. The Burnley viaduct links Central station with Barracks, it's a straight run.

Re: Where is this?

There must have been some changes, the picture of the signal box ( presumably the same one in Gremlins picture ) shows a line bending off somewhere, presumably the Todmorden line

That Signal box has Burnley Central on it, nowt to do with Accy Stn. Which Gremlin thought his picture was.

Re: Where is this?

It is still a mystery to me, the line to Todmorden branches off a long way from Burnley Central station, just after Rose Grove.

It does now but did it then ? Have to admit I can't think of anywhere that it would cross the town in that area.

Re: Where is this?

No way Accrington, too much industry on left, no footbridge, no station canopies.
There was no platform on south to west line as shown.

Re: Where is this?

I have just spent an hour trawling through the remainder of my railway books and come across the original article and photograph.
The photograph depicts a special train (one of three) on the 18 March 1967 entering Top Bank station Burnley.
The train hauled by Class 5 No. 44809 was special No. 1T80 and had left Liverpool at 11.10 AM. carnying football fans to watch the Match at Burnley.

It appears that the original poster on the Transport Worldwide Forum had got his facts wrong about the date and football team.

I would say so. They would be newly built then wouldn't they ?

Think that's Clock Tower Mill at Sandygate nearer to it
