Where is this?

This photograph has been posted on the Transport Worldwide forum and the members have been trying to establish where it was taken.

They say it was taken in Feb 1967 and the train was taking Manchester United supporters to Burnley.

A few members have suggested Accrington but being a newcomer I can't remember the old station and lines.
If it is Accrington and it is coming off the viaduct then it must be going back to Manchester.

Does anybody have a definite yes or no whether it is Accrington? I doubt it.

Thanks in advance for looking.

Re: Where is this?

Ooops, sorry, trying to make my dinner and post at the same time.
Obviously I am not very good at multi tasking.

At least my jacket potato was good, and the Aussie white plonk even better.

I did find out that Burnley didn't play Manchester United in February 1957 but they did on the 22 April that year and lost 2-0.

If that is suuposed to be Accy Stn, and what looks like the viaduct, which to me is the wrong shape as its a straght run over Blackburn Rd. Then that train is coming from Burnley. if thats Accy Stn & it carry's on it will be heading in the direction of Manchester

Re: Where is this?

Gremlin, can you please clarify whether it's supposed to have been taken in 1967 or 1957?
Didn't there used to be a footbridge from the Blackburn platform to the Manchester platform? It doesn't appear in the photo, though.

Re: Where is this?

It says on the caption it was taken in February 1967 taking Manchester United supporters to Burnley.
The two chimneys just behind the engine looked at though they are on Blackburn Road between the arches and Town Hall so I think it rules out that the photo is of Accrington.

Sorry I put 1957 in my second post.

Re: Where is this?

when did they lift the line out of Accrington to Manchester?
There is a photo on this forum taken by one of our members dated 1967 and the rails to Manchester have gone.

Here's Burnley viaduct, you go over it as you're coming into or leaving Burnley Central.
