Re: whereabouts of sex offenders.

well i havnt said that i agree with teens going on the sex offenders reg, unless you get a 16 preying on a pre teen, which has happened, what i am saying is that the law says they can be convicted of having sex with a minor, teens do these things i agree, and its not ever going to stop,i dont believe that its right what there doing but thats my opinion,i dont believe in 2 consentual teens being put on the sex offenders reg thats not right, but if you did get convicted at 16 the you should only get done for statutory rape and not go on the sex offenders reg.

I agree with A and B.

But also feel we have a right to know if a offender is living in your area.

Or if a hostel heppens now to be housing X Cons (Pervs), to be intergrated into society, we should know about this, so we can protect our children a lot easier, prevention before disaster.

Re: whereabouts of sex offenders.

In the news today

Crowd outside paedophile's home

An angry crowd has gathered outside the home of a paedophile in Bishop's Lydeard, Somerset.
Robert Oliver, 52, was a member of an East London paedophile gang which killed 14-year-old Jason Swift in 1985.

He was released in 1997 after serving 10 years of a 15-year sentence. His whereabouts were published by The News of the World on Sunday.

David Hinton, parish council chairman, said: "People should act within the law and not take it into their own hands."

'Paedophile out'

He added: "They can't got round damaging property just because they don't like the people who live in it."

Women chanting "paedophile out" called for Oliver to be kept locked up.

"Are my children not entitled to walk safely in the street and play in the area - why should he have all the police protection?" demanded one woman.

"There's families desperate for somewhere to live and they give a council house to him - it's disgusting," said another.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said they were "aware" of the situation.

Mr Oliver is being monitored by Mappa, the multi-agency team set up to manage serious violent and sex offenders after their release from prison.

Re: whereabouts of sex offenders.

Hi, Tin Monkey, read your post with interest. My girlfriend was sexually abused from the age of a few months old up to about 16 years old....... This was by a wide range of people, due to her circumstances. She is now in her 40's, and I now try and support her through the bad times and the nightmares. She has had councilling and hypnotherapy. I presume you have had no contact with a sex abuse victim, it might change your attitude if you saw how these people suffer. Ordinary, everyday things bring back memories that I hope you never have to live through. I for one support anyone who makes life hell for a paedophile, as they did for their victims. There is no punishment too great. And if "us lot" were running the country, it would be a safer place for our kids to live in. I truly hope that no child of yours ever becomes a victim of these sub-humans. I appreciate that you are entitled to your opinion, but just think about those that cannot forget.................

I agree with this , If people with our attitude ran the country then maybe it would be a safer place to be ..Sex offenders have no place in a community , any community, only the one they deserve (behind bars)..I also saw that documentary chav and they were treated like humans only to behave like animals YET AGAIN....

Re: whereabouts of sex offenders.

I'm not about to get involved in such an emotive subject as this as I will never have my opinion taken seriously. As soon as someone posts "I was/know someone who was, abused as a child, then the rules say that the discussion is over and they win.

The one thing that I will say is that suggesting the same old 'castration' and 'life imprisonment' solutions will not provide a cure to this age old problem. These people are not born evil, they are a product of the society we have created. Either that, or they are mentally unwell and need treatment.
I'm not saying that known sex offenders should just be released back into the community to offend again, but vitually every authority on the subject have said that publically naming and shaming offenders achieves nothing, but more problems.

I am not belittling the traumas and pain that people have, and continue to, go through. However, I think that you are oversimplifying a very complex social problem and hence my original comment.

Re: whereabouts of sex offenders.

Hi, Tin Monkey, should these perverts be kept either in prison, or secure mental hospitals, depending on whether you consider them to be criminals, or mentally ill, surely this would remove the naming and shaming issue. This only arises when these creatures are allowed to rejoin the community. While I accept that this IS an emotive issue, surely our kids are entitled to some protection. I would genuinely be interested to hear your solution to the problem.
