Doctor Who - Paul McGann
His portrayal as the Eighth Doctor was pretty much spot on for me, further developed by a nine year series of novels and new radio episodes each month to this day. He also got the best TARDIS, all mahogany and brass!
James Bond - Pierce Brosnan
in fairness, the new boy Craig is having a good stab at it but none of the big screen Bonds have nailed the character in the books for me.
Sherlock Holmes - Peter Cushing
From the 60s BBC series, most of which is now wiped, but he is exactly how Holmes always was in my head. Not a fan of any of the new adaptations.
Robin Hood - Michael Praed
First one I ever saw, great series and probably the last English actor to play the part.....
basil brush but the origonal one not this abomination they use now
Obi-Wan - despite been a huge starwars fan the old Obi-Wan did naff all in his movies and the new improved Obi-Wan kicked arse and used his lightsaber much more so im going with Ewan McGregor

ive just started a relationship with a blind woman !Its quite rewarding but quite challenging ! it took me ages to get her husbands voice right
Thomas the Tank Engine narrator - Ringo Starr
There are about half a dozen now and despite Michael Angelis having done it for more than 25 years he is never recognised for it. Picked up the box set for a fiver for a bit of nostalgia and no one co es close to Ringo Starr and the original Shepperton models.
and as for not knowing star wars, well that should be a crime in its self
these people exist i thought it was an urban legend

ron ely played him on the tv series as i was growing up, but i still preffered johnny
karloff = the monster
bella lagosi = dracula (although i did quite like gary oldmans portrayal)
lon chaney jnr = wolfman
guess its the classics for me
although i really enjoyed the more updated Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock
and thinking about it Jeremy Brett didnt do too bad either
For me there is only one definitive Holmes and that is Jeremy Brett - absolutely perfect. (Quite a passion of mine -I have him as my avatar quite often!)
While I grew up with John Pertwee as Dr Who, then Tom Baker, my absolute favourite was Christopher Ecclestone who did a fantastic job of re-launching the new modern series. Great actor.
Dracula has to be Christopher Lee
James Bond - I liked the irony of Roger Moore (Love Judy Dench's "M" -brilliant!)
OB1 -Ewan MacGregor
Tarzan - Ron Ely - the one I grew up with! (Interesting to see how many have played the role on this link!Actors Who Have Played Tarzan)
Agree with Ken that Ringo Starr is brilliant on Thomas the Tank -still have the collection of original videos which my boys loved!
Robin Hood - see following video, brilliant and as he says at the end -Unlike some other Robin Hoods I can speak with an English accent!
