Who knows about Stonebridge Terrace in Oswaldtwistle ?
Around 1963, I used to have a penpal whose name and address was as follows :
Ann Blackburn
14, Stonebridge Terrace
Oswaldtwistle, near Accrington,
Lancs.
At my old age (I'm 65 now), I'm curious to see if I can find her again.
The problem : I've looked up "Michelin Maps" on Internet, and I can't even find a place called "Stonebridge Tarrace". Has this place changed name ?
Any help would prove that Internet is useful after all...
Thanks - Laurent

I think this will be Stonebridge Lane which runs from Union Rd. (next to Golden Cross pub) to Heys Lane.
The terrace will be the first houses on the right which are raised quite high above the street.

Stonebridge Terrace is no longer there, was knocked down quite a while ago. I've lived in Ossy nearly all my life and the name Ann Blackburn doesn't ring any bells, of course she probably married and changed her name

Re: Who knows about Stonebridge Terrace in Oswaldtwistle ?
Thank you Jaysay for your reply.
You must be right, and MargaretR must be right too.
As I live in Belgium, I have used Google Earth this morning after Jaysay's reply. The situation is very clear : the houses must have been knocked down and are now replaced by a rectangular patch of grass.
Have you ever tried Google Earth ? There is a 360° photograph of Stone Bridge Lane every 10 yards.
By the way, if someone had a photograph of "Stonebridge Terrace" in those days, it would be great...
Thanks,
Laurent

The wall that you see here
Accrington BB5, UK - Google Maps
was originally higher - about 5ft - and the houses were accessed from steps at the end of the row.

Re: Who knows about Stonebridge Terrace in Oswaldtwistle ?
Aye - it's a while since I was down there !! The houses were in a pretty bad state I think (tho' with stone built frontages like most of the terraces in Ossy).
From another thread - local 'character' Harry Carey lived there for a time.

Re: Who knows about Stonebridge Terrace in Oswaldtwistle ?
Thank you everybody for your interest in this thread.
I am busy at the moment, but I'll post more information about Ann Backburn as well as a photograph later today or tomorrow.
So please come back here tomorrow...
Ann was approximately one year younger than I, so she could be born around 1945 or 1946. I know she has worked at Tesco for some time around 1963 and that she has had a first son named Paul (I don't know if she had other children after that).

Re: Who knows about Stonebridge Terrace in Oswaldtwistle ?
Hello Kikine,
I think we are definitely talking about the same Ann Blackburn.
She says she has a sister Pat who has a little boy Tony. Her step father is called Harry. He was a drayman, driving brewery wagons. Ann's mother was apparently a textile worker. Unfortunately, I don't have the surnames of Pat and Harry.
Please, Kikine, tell me more of what you know and show me the way to the other information that you say you have already posted.
I'm attaching a photo (1963) of Ann's mother, step-father Harry and little Tony.
Looking forward to hear from you,
Laurent

Hello, Yes her step father was Harry he used to work with my dad as a drayman for Thwaites brewery, her mum was Doris, lovely lady and Harry was one of lifes wonderful characters sadly passed on now. I used to live next door but one to Ann many years ago. There is a thread somewhere for Harry Carey. The photo made me smile, dad always said he was as strong as an ox! brought back happy memories. Doris did work in the mills. Hope this helps
