I think you have high expectations: I get junk mail from virgin offering fantastic deals if I switch over to them. The insult is that I'm already with them.

At least with your boiler people, their product isn't computer related. They could (at a push) run without computers. Virgin's product relies on computers, yet they don't seem to have the capacity to parse their mailing list against existing customers.
