wood for bonfires ! - who wants it? no one !!!
got into work this morning and was given the task of finding out who was having an organised bonfire this year and asking if they would like some free good wood for it (wooden crates)..delivered and unloaded at the site of bonfire..
I thought easy peasy...done in no time..how wrong was I ?
sat for 3 hours infront of a computer getting phone numbers and calling folk from a pub in pendleton (who no longer do them) to witton park in blackburn, scout group in chorley, burnley council who said no thanks even accrington cricket club who said basically no as well
I really couldnt believe it - that no one wanted any wood for their bonfires..
when I was a kid the main thing at this time of year was to get as much wood as you could and get your 'bonny' ready for the big day..it was a street thing where all kids joined in..
how times have changed ...
you cant even give it away nowadays ..
anyone else found this? or is it just me..? playstations and computers have alot to answer for !

Re: wood for bonfires ! - who wants it? no one !!!
There is a bonfire ban in some parts of Accy
Two Accrington areas made 'no bonfire zones' (From Lancashire Telegraph)
I think that it is perhaps for the best that only large organised fires in safe places is the way things are going nowadays

Did the cricket club not suggest ringing the round table ? Not sure of who organises which bit for the bonfire, maybe Lindsey can confirm it.

Re: wood for bonfires ! - who wants it? no one !!!
You mean every bunch of kids who are neighbours on the back street/alley dont have there own Bonfires and no longer go 'fagging' for wood from neighbouring streets coits for wood
The parents nearest to the fire no longer un-hook their yard gates to prevent the Bonfire from blistering the paint , no treacle toffee , or roast spuds .
So much for Stasi Nu Labour Britain

Re: wood for bonfires ! - who wants it? no one !!!
Not sure who supplies for the Cricket Club, but if it was one of the bar staff you spoke to then they would have been clued up on it so maybe we have enough ! Whitakers Arms usually have one, might be worth a try.
