Brierley's rishton
As well as my hunt for the Taylor's I am looking for the Brierley family from rishton?
my great granny, May Taylor married William Brierley in 1925, they lived on Clifton street in rishton and had my Gran Thelma Brierley in 1927.
William had brothers possibly called John and Henry.
All I know is that william was known as shuffling billy! and was a weaver then a road sweeper and that he died in the early 60's.
If you know any of the people i have mentioned, please, please get in touch.
My family tree is quite pathetic at the moment!
thanks

Don't know any Brierlys from Rishton ... but I do remeber Basil Brierly from Clayton if that helps .... he and his wife ran a store on Barnes St, and Basil ran a junk yard on Lower Barnes St. and had an allotment just off Rishton Rd, up by Ringstonhalgh Farm. They were RC.

Interesting .... I remember that Basil used to like a pint in the Village Blacksmith on Bayley St. .... and he was a member of the Bottom Club ... I used to live on Rishton Rd. .... at number 46, at the bottom of Charles St. just opposite the playground in Mercer Park.
Maybe there is a plaque on the house .... "Eric Lived Here"

Just been up that way Eric ... sorry no plaque in memory of your time there ... just a brown door with brass knocker and net curtains...
Yes, Basil did frequent Village Blacksmith as did former hubby after work .. grrrrh. Quite liked him and Sally actually.
Think he made a bit of killing selling the land he owned down Lower Barnes Street for housing development, and had his own house built there (I think). At the end of Rishton Road down the little grit path, there are gates which announce 'Basil Dean' .. so guess that is it.
