Callums

I was wondering if anyone has seen anything of Ray Peak lately, who used to own Callums Restaurant on Abbey Street? After Callums closed he started running a Taxi, and i think went working for Betty's for a while, but i dont know if he's still doing this. Used to see him around Accy quite frequently but not seen him for some time now. Used to go to Callums a lot, Ray was quite an eccentic kind of a chap...an aquired taste you might say...but the food was great there, i miss it!

Best Regards - Taggy

What a diplomatic way of putting it. I'd say pillock myself.
Many moons ago, when I used to drive a taxi, I remember the said Mr. Peake phoning for a taxi for one of his customers on the opening night of his restaurant.

Mr. Pillock: 'I want a taxi at Callum's as soon as possible' (no please or thank you)

Me: 'It will be about ten minutes if that's OK. Where's Callum's by the way?'

Mr Pillock: 'Where it's always been'. Bang the phone was slammed down.

Needless to say he didn't get his taxi.

I think he was in the Navy, used to live in Darwen before that, very eccentric bloke, Ray Peak he was called, he later got married to an Asian girl who worked i think for Lloyds bank, they had a daughter, but separated later. Not heard of or seen him around for ages now!

That's the chap, when he was in the navy he bought the house next to me in Hood Street and gave me a key to look after the place, he was a chef in the navy and we had a few nautical chats when he was home.

I am sure he had a property at the lower part of Hollins Lane too. One of those red brick houses.
