Re: harry carey

I remember Harry. He used to live in Stonebridge Lane & supped at the Rhoden Inn (among others!). He was a drayman for Duttons. He used to come out with some classics - "I saw a mate of yours today" What was he called? "I can't remember but if you can tell me his first name I'll be able to tell you his second" hahaha.

Re: harry carey

I remember Harry, I used to run errands for his wife when they lived on Stonebridge Lane on the terrace, that was in the 60's He ended up living on the estate at the back of the heyes, curlew or mallard or could be Kinfisher. He was a good mate of my dads when they were young and they worked for Thwaites' brewery. Weren't his daughters Pat and Ann? He would have been in his 80's now. He was one of Ossy's legends.

Re: harry carey

This is so mad, Harry Carey was my great grandad, he passed away when i was 5 years old and i only have fleeting memories of him, mostly hilarious, from him soon after getting his legs removed shouting "do i fathom a monkey?" When i laughed at him climbing out of bed, and saying he would put a pound in his right leg for me, which he said was his "safe keeping place from the wife" which was my great grandma, Doris. Id love to hear more stories about him from before I was born.
