Well thanks anyway. And I feel I want to say it again, thanks for all the help on this. At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man (at the tender age of 45), with so many people who are just out for themselves, it's great to be in this forum to see the brighter side of life.

Keep in touch Alan, we'd love to hear how you get on with your search, theres plenty of people on here that will help you with anything Accrington related.
Doug will be along soon I'm sure, he's into searching family tree's etc and it wasn't too long ago he was asking about a Taylor family on here.
I see in the family tree you posted the Taylor family was from Oswaldtwistle (Havelock St) I know a Taylor family who actually lives in the next street to Havelock St, wonder if they are related, I'll ask when I see him next.

Yes, I saw the other thread with some chat about a Taylor family. Some of the information in there does seems to provide a match for part of my wife's family tree. I'll follow that up. Looking forward to hearing about the Taylors you know too.

Speak soon, Alan

Re: Help required: Accrington cemetery

In case anyone is still listening, here is Harold Yerdon on 7 October 1944, just 18 days before he was killed.

Re: Help required: Accrington cemetery

A little update for you, the story of Harold Yerdon is now on-line at:

F/Sgt Harold Yerdon - 431 Squadron

Which includes Ken's excellent photo of the grave, which was the starting point for this thread.

That is such a tragic story for him to have died so young, in an inexplicable accident and just days after marrying.

Re: Help required: Accrington cemetery

I've just had a good read through all the links on this thread, some good reading but a sad tale.
Look at the ages of the crew members, all between 20 and 22, the pilot was 21 - seems a bit young to me, is this still the case in the forces, do they gain their "wings" so young?

Re: Help required: Accrington cemetery

It was probably because experience had to be gained quickly due to the war.
