Mortlock Family

A friend of mine (AK) is trying to locate anyone with knowledge of the Mortlake family, who lived in Lonsdale St at one time, and can point him towards learning about a child of that name being killed in a fire, c1895(?)

Searched through the old Fire Brigade Records.
the following fire took place at 11 Hood St, Accrington, at 10-45am Nov 5th 1896.
A 12 month old child was rescued by a Walter Cookson, the child being fearfully burned, died that night in Blackburn Infimary, The fire was caused by fire works which had been placed by the window.
The childs grandfather was over come by smoke and was rescued by the fire brigade.
The tenant of the property was James Mortlock.

Re: Mortlock Family

Not sure what info your friend needs Bob. Retlaw has provided the info on the sad death but if he is looking for family tree stuff see the private message.

Re: Mortlock Family

Just to add to the info Retlaw provided, the little guy was called Harry Slater the son of Harriet and James Edwin Slater. Harriet Mortlock married James Edwin Slater in 1895.

Re: Mortlock Family

Excellent stuff Walter & Ossy Kid.My thanks. My mate has been seeking this fior 2yrs and reinforces my view that it is always worth asking on Accyweb. I will now tell him to get into the library and see the Observers.
