my old mates john griffiths and skipper kerr

round about the early sixties after service in the raf regiment I mated out with two lads from great harwood john griffiths just out of the army and skipper kerr a motor mechanic working at gilbraiths john got a job at the post office as a post and telegraph officer which meant that he travelled round the various post offices in the blackburn area serving over the counters his mother went to live somewhere down south so john lived with his sister and brother in law, who by the way themselves worked for the post office his sister being the post mistress at great harwood, in the shakespeare ave area The three of us were single and looking back to those days and having just got my first car skipper able to borrow his dads car we were never stuck for transport when ever a big band joe loss or the ted heath band was anywhere near we were there Of course it could not last john was offered a job in africa in a management position and skipper had some domestic trouble after starting courting a girl and went off to the channel islands someone once spotted him working behind a bar there whether that was true I do not know but I do know he was a damned good mechanic When john went abroad at first we kept in touch but after I got married we lost contactwhich leaves me wondering did john or skipper ever return to great harwood I would dearly like to know
