Hah hah - do you believe it, I had to google 'gun bunny'? According to the Urban Dictionary, it's: 'a sarcastic name that soldiers will call other soldiers who handle artillery in the military'. Thanks DiG

Okay I admit to being a dumbarse! I've used that trick before but didn't even think to try it this time round.

You had me worried there,gpick!
I enlarged the photo and it worked. Then came out of it and the whole of Accyweb had been magnified so I could only see about a quarter of a line. Don't ask me how I did it.
Took me a few minutes to try Ctrl and -. Panic over!

Mystery Soldier

Ctrl and 0 puts it back to normal size. Doesn't happen on my browser, you can magnify one tab and the others stay as they were.

Re: Mystery Soldier

Perhaps re-scanning the photos in as high dpi as possible, then crop around the cap badges before re-sizing for the forum might give more detail.

Hi paternal grandfather was a Market Gardener on The Moss in Ashton, so I'm ruling him out. His maternal grandfather is more likely, (he was a carter) but he would have been too old being born in 1858. So I'm looking at uncles from that line, also working with horses.

Re: Mystery Soldier

I scanned the photos using 600 dpi, then futzed around in Photoshop to sharpen the images, but I don't think they're much better. Maybe the one of the mounted guy is a bit better.

I'm now thinking the mounted man is Royal Artillery, and the seated man Cheshire regiment, but can't be certain. Any opinions? I'd like to upload the photos I found of WW1 cap badges, but I think it's against the rules to upload internet images. Or am I wrong?

Thanks for all your help on this. Accy Web is tops in my book
