St.John's School, Accrington

With a view to holding a reunion of ex-pupils of St John's, a list of them is being started. If you want to be added to the list and be notified of any arrangements made, please contact Barry Ingham ([email protected]) or send me a PM Include your email address and say when you attended, or give your birth year.

An event is being planned, and I will announce the date soon.

A word of warning - you might come face-to-face with Cashy.!!!!

Re: St.John's School, Accrington

Hi Bob. Did not go to St Johns School but in St Johns Scout Group. St Johns had the distinction of having the very first Air Scouts in the British Isles and I was its first Patrol Leader. Always had leanings to the Navy but found what I was given to teach the patrol second nature. From there I joined the ATC where they took me to Blackpool, sat me in a Flight Simulator (Link Trainer then) which I immediately flew. The CO sent me, at his expense, to train at Blackpool every week. That's how I became a pilot. Nice to remember all this. Frank Sanderson

Barry has thought of this. He has two addresses , one of which is 'secret' The object of posting this one is to publicise and encourage. It is not causing him to lose sleep.

Re: St.John's School, Accrington

I went there in the early 1950's, and I believe the Mother's Union was centered there. Don't know how many years - I think it must have been nursery school because I transferred to Peel Park for a year or two before we emigrated to the U.S. in 1954.

Does anybody remember the teacher, Evelyn Bury at St. John's? She became a friend of my mother's, and they corresponded across the Atlantic for many years. We lost track of her in the late 1960s, I think. Mrs. Bury was an ardent pacifist, and she was associated with Lord Bertrand Russell's activism against nuclear weapons. I believe she knew him. I'd love to find somebody who recalled her and/or knows something about her family. I believe she had a daughter named Nancy.

All very hazy recollections.
