Pat, I was wondering if you had any pictures of the old building because as far as I know the building that I went to only opened a couple of years before I went there. I'd be interested to know exactly where it was in relation to today's school as well.

Hi Gayle
Sorry I don't have any pics - the school was next to the TA Barracks - in between the school and the barracks was a playground.

Re: St Marys RC school Oswaldtwistle 1955-57??

I went to St Marys from 1948 until 1954, when I left to go to Paddock House. The school was in the old building with the open, cinder playground and outside loos and windows too high to see out of. In my time the headmistress was Miss Heaney and Fred Vandome was deputy head.

TonyP, I think we may have been in the same class, your name is familiar. When I left, our class teacher was Mrs Harrison. I remember Michael Coffey, Tony Borwick, Stuart Hartley, Stuart Bailey, Austin Caulfield, Anne Warbrick, Maureen Thompson, Audrey Hodson, Pat Fitzpatrick and my good friend (and she still is, 52 years later) Betty Wilcock. Any of these names ring any bells?

I went to Paddock too but no surprise really as St Mary's was one of the feeder schools and it was just across the road.
