Re: anyone growing mint?

There is a gentleman in West Bradford (Ribble Valley) who is giving away mint from his garden next to the river, just over the bridge on the right as you enter westbradford.

If you dont go over that way, i do and could collect some.

Think my sis has some going spare, will ask, it's a devil to contain, you need to keep it separate from everything else and in a pot to contain it's roots, very predatorial, even throws roots up outside the soil! Maybe B and Q or get a cutting of someone. Have seen the growing plants in supermarkets before now.

I have an Australian mint bush in my little garden ...when you rub the leaves, then smell your fingers you get the mint spell .. maybe it is one of these Mallard.

Sorry Flashy, not the type you are looking for; well, don't think you can eat it .. ?

There are 6 varies of mint described on page 2 of this link
How to grow Mint herb with pictures and advice
only one isn't for 'culnary' use.
I grew mint when I had a garden. A buch hung from the rack seemed to keep flies out of the kitchen.

PS found your australian mint here

Thanks Margaret, although doesn't appear to be growing up, more out like..

Says OK for culinary uses, not sure whether I would risk it though, will stick to the potpourri advice.

Anyone else willing to try though is welcome to a cutting ...

He is correct, see previous post!
Best kept in a plastic bucket in a pot apparently!

Re: anyone growing mint?

Oh I love growing mint . sadly I lost mine last year due to the high gales and floods but i am doing some more this year.
I grow all my own herbs too.
there are also many flowers leaves you can use . Nasturtion leaves are quite nice. they have a peppery taste so stick em in with a mixed salad for a nice mixture.

Yes flashy make sure you keep mint in pots chick. or it will spread like wild fire and doubt you will be too keen to have it around then hahaha,,

Aldi sell small pots of growing mint for the princely price of 69 pence. I bought a pot last summer and I am still using it.

Another thing about mint is if you keep in on your kitchen window bottom it keeps the flies out of the kitchen, apparently they don't like the smell.

Well, have been in aldi this morning and they haven't any mint at the moment, but they have had it on the end of the Veggie and fruit Island since last summer.
I'm well impressed with my little pot. It is a prolific grower and i have been chopping leaves off and giving them away.

i might go to the Aldi at Ewood when Reece gets home and see if they have any there, silly that it will cost me £4 in bus fares just to get something that only costs 69p lol
